As the Treasury Secretary beams over running the China portfolio, and the Pentagon gloats over the armed subversion of Venezuela, which Rubio has been craving for decades, he is made to play nice in the Middle East following the Israelis’ latest outrage, this time against Qatar. First he had to make the obligatory stop in Israel. Why he agreed on this visit to pose for photographs next to the Western Wall – a site for supplicants – is hard to understand. Maybe his little piece of inserted paper gives a hint as to the real reason: ‘Please, dear Lord, stop the Emir from poisoning me’; ‘Please fill MAGA hearts with love for a guy (besides Vance) with a vowel at the end of his name when I run again for president’; ‘Please do the same with the Evangelicals for a poor lapsed Catholic; Or maybe, ‘Please give me the strength not to be humiliated as much as my predecessor’.
